IN ORDER TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS NOT...
AN OUTLINE OF AN ESCAPE PLAN
The victims of domestic violence that are successful at leaving are the ones who have planned ahead. A escape kit is necessary in this plan and should consist of:
Money - put a little money away enough for bus or cab fare and a cheap meal.
Clothes - Only take a few items to put in the escape kit
Extra Keys - House keys, car keys and keys to safety deposit boxes if you have any
Medications/Prescriptions
Checkbook & Credit Cards
Legal documents - Birth Certificates for you and children, any documents regarding property you own with your abuser and Protective Orders
Jewelry or small valuables
Driver's License & Passport
Address books
Any paperwork, photos or records detailing abuse
Water bottles & small snacks
Once you have put together a escape kit, put it in a place where it will be easy to get to at a moment's notice. Most escapes are done quickly and without much notice. You really can't pin point when you're leaving, but you can be prepared when you do.
Once you have left, figure out where you could stay and for how long and how will you get there.
